Mamma G's Wraps

Mamma G's Wraps

Angela Giardina Helps to Keep BHS Students Fed--One Wrap at a Time

The BHS cafeteria makes approximately 280 wraps a day. Five women split the work and take orders–breaded chicken, peppers, cheese, hot sauce. One of those women is Angela Giardina, known to students as Mamma G.

Mamma G has worked in the district since March 2012. She started during her daughter’s freshman year at BHS.

“Since my daughter called me Mom, her friends started referring to me as Mom,” Giardina said. “Then other students started calling me Mamma G. It just stuck.”

At 10 o’clock each morning, Mamma G can be found at the counter filling orders and rolling and heating wraps. Students wait in a line.

“I started going to Mamma G for my wraps because my brother went to her,” said Johnny, a BHS student. “It’s the personal connection.”

Mamma G says she gets to know students over their four years at the high school.

“I just love the kids,” she said. “When they start out as freshmen, they try to cut the line, and I tell them to go back to the end of the line. I get to know them over the years. I try to catch up with them each morning when they order their food. I ask about their classes, what they are doing after graduation. It’s all about making connections.”

She loves watching students mature over the years.

“By senior year, I want to treat them special,” Mamma G said. “I want them to enjoy.”

Students return to her counter every day, ordering the same wrap.

“The same students order the same wrap every day,” she said. “I know what they want.”

As students arrive in the cafeteria, Mamma G often has their order ready to go. A senior eating lunch nearby explained why he keeps coming back.

“It’s the love. Mamma G puts lots of love into her wraps,”
