2026-27 Block Schedule Transition
Fall 2026 BHS will transition from a traditional nine-period day to what is known as a “drop block schedule.” We are excited about this transition and believe this shift will greatly benefit our students and teachers.
Throughout the 2025–26 school year, committees have carefully examined the impacts of this change, including scheduling, lunch, course pacing, and safety, to ensure a smooth transition. In addition, our teachers have engaged in professional development and intervisitation opportunities to learn and implement engaging instructional strategies suited for longer class periods.
Both staff and students have also taken advantage of opportunities to visit neighboring high schools with similar schedules. These visits allowed them to experience the block schedule and common lunch period firsthand, and to share their observations with colleagues and peers.
For more information, please review our FAQ and Parent University presentation, where we discuss the block schedule in greater detail.
